AUCKLAND ACES left-armer BEN LISTER has become the latest New Zealand Croatia representative to be called up for a national team.
The 26-year-old paceman has been on a steady upward curve since his Aces debut at the tail of 2017 and has now been picked for the New Zealand A tour of India in September 2022 - his first selection for a top level NZC side.
Lister and young Aces team-mate QUINN SUNDE are both professional cricketers contracted by Auckland Cricket this season and, while keeper-batsman Sunde has yet to get his Aces career going, Lister has racked up 61 wickets (with a best of 5-29) from 25 first-class matches, 43 wickets from 35 List A one-dayers (best: 6-51) and 36 T20 appearances for 35 wickets (best: 3-21).
The New Zealand A tour, which contains a mix of capped BLACKCAPS and emerging players, will take in both red-ball and white-ball cricket in Bengaluru (Bangalore) and Chennai, an exciting opportunity for Ben to impress national selector Gavin Larsen who will tour with the team.
Traditionally an A tour is seen as a big learning opportunity and challenge, presenting high quality opposition players on unfamiliar conditions.
Said Larsen, “Touring India is one of the great experiences for any cricketer and I know the players and staff are looking forward to the challenge.”
The other four players set to embark on their first "A" tour are Chad Bowes (Canterbury spinner/batsman), Matt Fisher, (ND quick) co-captrain Robbie O’Donnell (Auckland batsman) and Joe Walker (ND spinner).
Lister was named Auckland Cricket's Bowler of the Year at their 2021/22 end of season awards. New Zealand Croatia congratulates Ben on an excellent 2022 and we wish you all the best for an exciting tour of India, Blister!
