An early start was never going to be a deterrent to go see New Zealand Croatia play. Seeing as it was the Cros vs The Bros, it made the decision to travel to Rotorua that bit easier (having big brother playing in a match was just a coincidence). Arriving at the amazing Smallbone Park with Cros and Bros helping get the covers off, it set up an amazing atmosphere for the day of not only competition, but togetherness of the two cultures.
As always, Sooty was on a rampage to hug any and every Cro and Cro supporter in sight. For the first game, I had the pleasure of New Zealand Croatia sponsor Russell Bennetto (from Busck Prestressed Concrete) for company. After sorting out who was who, we had settled into our commentary flow, giving and receiving greeting from everyone walking past.
Sadly as the game went on, it didn't turn out to be the result we had hoped for. However, during the break between matches, we were joined by Joey's lovely mother and sister who added even more to the impeccable banter (although I'm not sure if Joey saw it that way). As the second game progressed, Mrs Yovich began telling stories of a trip to Croatia. Knowing my Croatian brothers had a firm grip on the game, the stories took priority for a couple of overs. That was until Mrs Yovich felt the lads needed to wrap the game up, which they did comfortably in the end.
