Kaipaki Cricket Club 272/8 (40 ov)
defeated NZ Croatia Cricket 199 (33)
After all the wild weather of Cyclone Gabrielle, a fine day was a welcome one as our players looked forward to continuing our longstanding friendship/rivalry with Kaipaki Cricket Club.
The NZ Croatia team turned up ready for action, some for the first time, at the charming Kaipaki Nation Oval, home of the old Seddon Park scoreboard.
The day also saw the debut of two members of Croatia Heritage. Congratulations to Dominic Arnerich (cap #43) and Mark Dutton (cap #44).
This was made even more special as Dominic was able to run on with his father John Anerich in Croatian colours, for the very first time (the pair pictured above).
We also wish to also congratulate our debut guest players Harry Lowe and Matthew Dale.
After losing the toss and bowling first, the home ground advantage favoured the Kaipaki team who put on a strong total posting 272/8 off their 40 overs.
This was reached through strong contributions from Sean Bonenkamp (60), and Charlie Presswell (79).
Dennis Mihaljević and Connor Lally both picked up three wickets with the ball for the chequers, however chasing it down would be a tough ask.
The batting effort was led by our newly appointed NZ Croatia captain Dominic Smith-Hodgson who clearly relished his new leadership role and played a diverse array of powerful strokes to reach 64.
Only batter Harry Lowe (28) reached more than 20 as the NZ Croatia batsmen failed to kick on from their starts, getting bowled out for 199 in the 33rd over.
Nevertheless, it was a fantastic day at Kaipaki Cricket Club. Thank you very much to all involved and Kaipaki for again being wonderful hosts!
